Wilderness Trail Distillery, located on 163 acres in Danville, KY, is a family-owned business that began in 2012. Co-owners Shane Baker and Pat Heist use their love of whiskey and 28+ years of fermentation expertise to make some of the Kentucky's Finest Bourbon Whiskey.
After years of working with distilleries around the world to provide advice and fermentation products, we launched our premium craft distillery in 2012 with a focus on making the highest quality Bourbon, Rye Whiskey and Vodka.
In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
A distillery makes hard alcohol like whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, etc. The process of making distilled spirits starts off much of the same as making beer. We start by combining some basic ingredients such as grains, yeast & water. Of course each product's recipe varies.Campari Group has completed the acquisition of 70% of bourbon and rye whiskey producer, Wilderness Trail Distillery, in a deal worth US$420 million.Campari Group this week announced that it is buying a majority stake in Danville, Kentucky-based Wilderness Trail Distillery. In addition to the eponymously named liqueur, Campari Group also owns SKYY Vodka, Wild Turkey Distillery and more brands.Wilderness Trail Distillery in Danville, Kentucky has sold a 70% majority interest to Campari Group for $420 million. Campari has an option to buy the additional 30% by 2031 valuing the entire transaction at $600 million. Wilderness Trail Distillery was founded in 2012 by Shane Baker and Dr. Patrick Heist.
