Michter's US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey is made at the Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. The distillery is located at 801 W. Main St., but the Shively neighborhood distillery where most of the whiskey is made is not open to the public.
Michter's US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey is a small-batch whiskey distilled in new American white oak barrels. It's bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV) and aged in fire-charred barrels. The whiskey is made with a unique grain selection, so it can't be categorized as a bourbon or a rye.
Michter's Original Sour Mash Whiskey was the distillery's most popular product in the 1970s and 1980s, but it disappeared from the market in 1989. It returned in 2012 as part of the US*1 line.
