Penelope Bourbon is distilled at MGP's historic Lawrenceburg, Indiana distillery. The distillery was founded in 1847.
Bottled at barrel proof, Maker's Mark® Cask Strength ranges from 108 to 114 proof depending on the barrels. Surprisingly smooth, this bourbon retains the signature, front-of-the-palate flavors of Maker's Mark® while amping up the vanilla and rich oak notes.
Bourbon must be distilled no higher than 160 proof, 80 percent alcohol-by-volume. Some whisky allows up to 90 percent alcohol-by-volume, but Bourbon does not. 160 proof Bourbon is as high as the proof can reach off the still.
Named after our founder's recently born daughter, Penelope Bourbon is our signature four grain straight bourbon uniquely blended from three bourbon mash bills. Each barrel is hand-selected and blended into a single batch for your enjoyment.
Most distillers put bourbon through distillation twice. In the first step, the bourbon goes through column stills. The second round distills it through attached, heated copper pot stills. These bourbon distillation rounds boost the alcohol content of the liquid and remove the mash and other impurities.
