Tasting Notes

Westward Whiskey American Single Malt:

Appearance:
Radiant amber, reminiscent of a golden sunset, enticing you to explore the depths within the glass.

Nose:
An aromatic dance unfolds with inviting notes of caramel and vanilla, followed by a subtle interplay of orchard fruits—ripe apples and pears. As the bouquet develops, hints of honey and a touch of toasted oak create a harmonious and inviting olfactory experience.

Palate:
The first sip reveals a luxurious and full-bodied palate. Rich toffee and butterscotch notes coat the tongue, accompanied by a gentle warmth that hints at the whiskey's meticulous aging process. Malt sweetness emerges, complemented by layers of vanilla, creating a complex and well-rounded flavor profile.

Mid-Palate:
Midway through, the whiskey unveils additional layers of complexity. Warm baking spices, such as cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg, add depth without overpowering the inherent sweetness. The malt character persists, contributing to a velvety mouthfeel that invites contemplation.

Finish:
The grand finale is a lingering and satisfying finish. A subtle, lingering smokiness intertwines with the remnants of toffee and oak, leaving a lasting impression. The finish is both warm and nuanced, encouraging a moment of reflection after each sip.

Overall:
Westward Whiskey American Single Malt is a testament to the artistry of American distillation. Its rich and inviting character, coupled with a balance of sweetness and complexity, makes it a versatile and enjoyable spirit—whether savored neat, on the rocks, or as the cornerstone of your favorite whiskey cocktail. A true expression of craftsmanship and the spirit of the Pacific Northwest.

Distillery Information

Situated along Distillery Row in Portland Oregon, Westward Distillery was founded in 2004 by Christian Krogstad. Krogstad began his career in the alcohol industry as a brewer — shortly after graduating from the Siebel Institute of Technology (the Siebel Institute is America's oldest brewing academy), Krogstad began crafting beer at the Orchard Street Brewery in Washington. After Orchard Street, Krogstad worked at a vineyard for a number of years, before finally opening the doors to Westward Whiskey Distillery nearly ten years ago.
