Distillery Information

Distilled in Hammersmith London using ten tradition London dry gin botanicals: Macedonian juniper, Bulgarian coriander seeds, French angelica root, Spanish liquorice root, Italian orris root, Spanish ground almond, Chinese cassia bark, Madagascan cinnamon, Seville orange and Spanish lemon peel.
Sipsmith was established in London in 2009. The first copper-pot based distillery to start up in London in 189 years, it is one of only four gin distilleries located in London.
London dry gin is made from a base spirit, which is normally made from fermented and distilled wheat or barley but could also be made from grape or potato. The base spirit is flavoured with juniper (the key ingredient to any gin) and a mixture of other plants, herbs, fruits, nuts, spices and roots.
The process for London Dry involves the maceration of natural botanicals in a 96% ABV neutral spirit from agricultural origin (usually grain based). This base spirit must be distilled a second time with added flavourings, the key ingredient of course being juniper berries.
The most traditional and still the most common method for gin distillation. A mix of juniper and other botanicals is steeped in neutral spirit which has been reduced in strength with water (normally to approx. 50% alc./vol.).
