Appearance: Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum exhibits a deep amber hue in the glass, hinting at its rich and robust character. Hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves mingle harmoniously, creating a tantalizing bouquet that evokes images of distant shores and adventure. Palate: On the palate, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum delights with its bold and flavorful profile. Rich flavors of vanilla and caramel dominate, accompanied by a symphony of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. The rum is distilled in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and draws influence from Caribbean rum, which sailors would historically infuse with spices and flavors from the Far East and Asia.
Rum is distilled from sugarcane, then aged in oak barrels, with the colour — light, gold, dark — dependent on how long it's aged for and whether the sugarcane is caramelised. Spiced rum is just that: rum — usually gold or dark varieties — with spices added to it.The rum is distilled in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The origins of spiced rum can be traced back to the 16th century, when sailors and pirates in the Caribbean would add spices and other flavourings to their rum to mask the rough taste of low-quality alcohol.The skill of the distiller is to use the distillation process to separate and collect the alcohols and flavour compounds (congeners) wanted in the finished rum. The lightest of these, the 'low wines' (those with a low boiling point) will be given off first and many of these most volatile compounds are harmful.
And in 1999, together with Hardy, as Sailor Jerry Ltd, they introduced a 92-proof spiced Navy rum featuring a quintessential Sailor Jerry hula girl on the label. As the bottle is emptied, additional pin-up girls designed by Sailor Jerry are visible on the inner side of the label.Great when mixed and smooth going down. I just started trying this rum but already it is one of my favorites I would highly recommend it for anyone that wants something good but isn't expensive. 4 out of 5 stars.
