Distillery Information

Founded in 2011 by proprietor Derek Benham, Redwood Empire Whiskey is known for its collection of smooth, complex, and balanced whiskeys created by the team of master distiller Jeff Duckhorn and head distiller Lauren Patz.Sweetness from corn and spiciness from rye combine with an almost maple syrup like flavor. Vanilla and caramel notes lead to a persistent, yet subdued peppery finish.
Located in the heart of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, Redwood Empire distilled its first drop in 2016 and today is led on the production side by Master Distiller Jeff Duckhorn and Head Distiller Lauren Patz.Master Distiller, Jeff Duckhorn combines wine country heritage with the mindset of a maker, be it bread, beer or kombucha. The team follows an environmentally sustainable approach in all production methods; Redwood Empire whiskey is truly a nod to the collaboration of man and nature.
Redwood Empire American Whiskey is a complex blend consisting of 60% rye and 40% bourbon, a portion of which has been furthered matured in casks of port wine and casks of California chardonnay, zinfandel and other red wines. All but the 2 YO rye are sourced from the MGP distillery in Lawrenceburg Indiana.
Founder Derek Benham and master distiller Jeff Duckhorn recognized that the region's temperate climate and humidity would allow for a slow, even extraction of flavor during the whiskey aging process. For a whiskey to call itself bourbon, its mash (the mixture of grains from which the product is distilled) must contain at least 51 per cent corn. The mash must be distilled at 160 proof or less, the distillate must be stored in charred new oak barrels at 125 proof or less, and it must not contain any additives.
