Distillery Information

The first documents in which Chianti is mentioned as a wine area date back to the 13th century as a reference to the League of Chianti, created in Florence in an attempt to form regulations for Radda, Gaiole, and Castellina, producers of red wine made from a base of Sangiovese.
Chianti is a red wine blend and it is also called to the territory in Tuscany, Italy, where Chianti wines are produced. Chianti wines traditionally were sold in traditional squat bottles enclosed in a straw basket called Fiasco. The first classification of the Chianti wine zone was done in 1716.
Chianti is high in tannins and is usually oaked for several months, 7-24 months in the case of Chianti Classico. This results in a medium-bodied wine with notable earthy and rustic aromas. Common flavor notes include cherry, strawberry, dried herbs, balsamic vinegar, and smoke.
Chianti DOCG is divided into seven subzones: Chianti Rufina, Chianti Colli Aretini, Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Colline Pisane, Chianti Montalbano and Chianti Montespertoli. Wines made in these areas may choose to use the name of their subzone or simply be labeled as Chianti.
