The Pepper family brand of whiskey is an iconic Kentucky whiskey brand initially produced during the American Revolution and continued through 1958. The family built and operated two main distilleries: first founding the site that today hosts the Woodford Reserve Distillery, and later the James E.
The James E. Pepper Distilling Co. crafts this spirit by mashing locally grown rye grains with limestone water from the historic distillery's original well. Proprietary yeast strains and a low-temperature cooking method impart a singular and enticing spice.In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
