Distillery Information

Founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, considered the father of Japanese whisky, Nikka Whisky produces a wide and diverse range of whiskies at its two distilleries located in northern Japan: Yoichi and Miyagikyo.
Masataka Taketsuru, known as the father of Japanese whisky, founded the Nikka distillery in the 1930s. Today you can visit the original factory, in Yoichi, a town west of Sapporo, close to Otaru.
The company operates a number of distilleries and other facilities in Japan, including two Japanese whisky distilleries, the Yoichi distillery in Yoichi, Hokkaidō (established in 1934), and the Miyagikyo distillery in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Northern Honshū (established in 1969).
Nikka Pure Malt Taketsuru Japanese Whisky is gentle malt flavor, fruitiness and extremely well-balanced taste make it a perfect entry point into the world of Nikka. Taketsuru's no-age-statement blended malt contains a high percentage of malt from Miyagikyo, with the reminder coming from Yoichi.
The Nikka Black Special is a blend of malt and grain whisky distilled using Coffey column stills. The blend reportedly consists of at least some spirit from Yoichi Distillery and some from Ben Nevis.
