Distillery Information

Mateus is a brand of medium-sweet frizzante rosé wine produced in Portugal.
It was the Greeks and the Romans who eventually figured out how to separate their red wines from their white wines but it wasn't until sixth century BC that the Phocaeans brought grape vines to Massalia in the south of France that the pink rosé blend started being the talk of the Mediterranean.
Made from Baga and Touriga Nacional grapes, Mateus delivers a dry rosé with a pale pink color, a bouquet of alluring floral notes, and lively red berry fruit flavors on the palate. In 1942, the Portuguese company Sogrape and its founder Fernando Van Zeller Guedes, launched one of the world's most innovative wines. Its striking image, unique flavour and curious bottle have brought it fame worldwide.
Mateus Dry Rosé is made from Baga and Shiraz grapes (Baga is an indigenous Portuguese variety). It is dry according to the tech sheet — just 4 g/l of residual sugar — but fruity, so that first sip tasted sweeter to us than the rest of the glass. Sweetness is subjective, so you may find it drier or sweeter than we did.
