Distillery Information

Malibu is made by the West Indies Rum Distillery Ltd in the Caribbean (Barbados). Now the world's most famous liqueur, it's a frequent sighting in bars and clubs all over the world.
Since 1893, Malibu rum has been produced on the island of Barbados, reputed for its high quality rum since the middle of the 17th century.... Malibu is an original Caribbean coconut rum, born and lives in a place where spirit of summer shines all year around.
At present, there are four active rum distilleries on the island: Foursquare, Mount Gay, WIRD (West Indies Rum Distillery) and St Nicholas Abbey.
It includes both the light-bodied rums, typified by those of Cuba and Puerto Rico, and the heavier and fuller-flavoured rums of Jamaica. Rums originated in the West Indies and are first mentioned in records from Barbados in about 1650. The product was created in 1978 by Tom Jago of International Distillers & Vintners, and originally made from fruit spirits, flavored with rum and coconut flavoring in Curaçao. Originally, the product was used to simplify the making of piña coladas by bartenders.
