Distillery Information

The distillery is included in Diageo's 2022 Special Edition lineup that focuses on exploring the boundaries of aromas and flavor in whisky. Lagavulin 2022 Special Release is a 12-year-old Islay single malt Scotch that was matured in American oak refill and virgin oak casks, then bottled at 114.6 proof.Lagavulin distillery is a malt whisky distillery in the village of Lagavulin on the south of the island of Islay, Scotland. It distills spirit that will become Islay single malt Scotch whisky. Lagavulin is owned by Diageo, a multinational beverage alcohol company headquartered in London.
Made on the island of Islay, off the western coast of Scotland, the whisky is beloved for its peaty flavor and deep complexity. The Lagavulin 16-year is perhaps the best example of what Islay has to offer, and it has been delighting whisky lovers for over 30 years. Therefore, a 12-year-old whisky has been aged for at least twelve years but may contain older whiskies to achieve the desired flavour profile.
Revered by connoisseurs and experts, Lagavulin is known as “the king of Islay”. It is an 'essential' Scotch Whisky that any connoisseur or enthusiast must have in their collection; one of the world's favourite Malt Whiskies.
In 1974 the floor malting at Lagabulin were closed and since then the malted barley the distillery uses is obtained from the local Port Ellen maltings. The malt produced there for Lagavulin has its own particular 'recipe' which involves being dried by hot air and then by the island's peat for specific periods of time.
Serving Suggestion: Best enjoyed from a traditional whisky glass, neat or with a little still water. Room-temperature water can bring out the hidden aromas and flavours of the whisky, making it more mellow and easy to drink.
Lagavulin (Scottish Gaelic: Lag a' Mhuilinn, "hollow of the mill") is a small village approximately 3 miles (5 kilometres) outside Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay, Scotland.
