Distillery Information

Dom Pérignon (/ˌdɒm pɛrɪnˈjɒn/ DOM perr-in-YON, French: [dɔ̃ peʁiɲɔ̃]) is a brand of vintage Champagne. It is named after Dom Pérignon, a Benedictine monk who was an important quality pioneer for Champagne wine but who, contrary to popular myths, did not discover the Champagne method for making sparkling wines.
Dom Pérignon's constraint is the Vintage: Dom Pérignon can only be produced from the harvest of a single year. Dom Pérignon's ambition is to bear witness to each year, whatever the challenges may be.
The Dom Perignon brand was launched by Robert-Jean de Vogué in 1936 as the first commercially available brut prestige cuvee, 'Dom Perignon' using wine from the 1921 vintage. Louis Roederer originally produced Cristal as the first prestige cuvee in 1876, but it was sweet and was not commercially available.
First released in 1937 (the 1921 vintage) and owned by Moet Chandon, Dom Pérignon is a prestige cuvée (also known as tête de cuvée) which is the top Champagne that a producer will make. Dom Pérignon is vintage champagne only.
Dom Perignon was founded in 1668 but its first vintage was in 1921 and only released for sale in 1936. Since its inception, the Dom Perignon name is linked with class, style, and luxury and is one of the best sparkling wines in the world. To summarize, Dom Perignon is extremely sought-after and expensive due to many reasons: The champagne is created from one vintage. They range from 8 to 10 year old (at the very minimum) however, they can live for up to 40 years. Dom Perignon isn't always produced (only when there is a good harvest)
