The Diplomático distillery is located at the foot of the Andes Mountains in Venezuela, where the purest waters flow. This location was also carefully selected for its proximity to the main sugar cane processing plants.
Diplomatico is produced in Venezuela by Destilerias Unidas, and is consistently recognised as one of the finest South American rums.
According to a December filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the cost of the acquisition was $725 million in cash. Brown-Forman also agreed to pay up to $50 million of certain post-closing costs and expenses in connection with the acquisition.DUSA is located in one of the geographical areas with the most natural resources in Venezuela, in the middle of the three largest sugar cane producer states – Lara, Portuguesa, and Yaracuy.Rum is a spirit made from sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice. The sugarcane is fermented and then distilled. After distillation, the liquid will be clear and typically aged using bourbon casks, wooden casks or stainless steel tanks. The vessel of distillation plays a key role in what type of rum will result.
As part of the acquisition, Brown‑Forman added an aging, bottling, and shipping production facility located in Panama to the company. Destillers United Group S.L. will continue to produce and age the unique, carefully-crafted, and complex Diplomático Rum in their original distillery at the foot of the Andes mountains.
