Davidoff Cognac was created by Zino Davidoff and his desire to have Cognac to pair with his cigars. He went to his friend Kilian Hennessy to help create such cognacs and in 1986 the Davidoff cognac line was born. Fast forward 25 years later to 2011, Thomas Hine & Co. took on the Davidoff cognac production.VSOP Cognac stands for "Very Superior Old Pale" Cognac, which is interesting considering that it comes from France. The origin of the abbreviation VSOP dates back to a Cognac order from the British Royal Court in 1817 by King George IV.
Cognac can only be made from grapes grown in the strictly defined Cognac region of France. It must be made from the juice of at least one of three particular grapes, the most common being Ugni Blanc and the other two being Folle Blanche and Colombard.
