Distillery Information

The Craigellachie distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Aberlour, Banffshire near the village of Craigellachie at the centre of the Speyside whisky producing area of Scotland.
Initially matured in a mixture of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. 50% of the 'blend' is then finished in first-fill Sherry casks, the rest in first-fill Bourbon.
The Craigellachie distillery lies in Banffshire in the very heart of the Speyside region of Scotland, between Rothes and Dufftown. The distillery stands alone, perched high on the rock of Craigellachie ( from which it takes its name) overlooking the confluences of the Rivers Fiddich and Spey.
Most people naturally assume that “single malt” means just that – a single whisky from a single barrel. In fact, what a Scottish “single malt” actually means is that it is only malt whisky, prepared in the traditional way, and produced by a single distillery in Scotland.
When we speak of 17-year-old whisky, we're delving into a spirit that has been given the luxury of time to develop character. In its long slumber within oak barrels, the whisky undergoes profound changes. The oak imparts its wisdom onto the liquid, bestowing upon it flavours of vanilla, caramel, and spice.
Maturing Scotch whisky is kept in oak casks – sometimes called barrels, hogsheads or butts. Casks are sourced mainly from the US and Spain, where they have previously been used to age whiskey and sherry.
