Distillery Information

This bourbon was aged for many years in new white oak barrels before spending another two years extracting the subtle, yet sweet flavors from port wine barrels. The rich vanilla characters of American oak mingle with the delicate fruit notes from port to create this magnificent whiskey.
Founded by Stephen Gertman, CEO & Master Distiller, along with his family, Breaker Bourbon is the first bourbon to be produced in Southern California since Prohibition. This distillery is located in Buellton, CA at the entrance of Santa Rita Hills AVA in north Santa Barbara County.
Most distillers put bourbon through distillation twice. In the first step, the bourbon goes through column stills. The second round distills it through attached, heated copper pot stills. These bourbon distillation rounds boost the alcohol content of the liquid and remove the mash and other impurities. These barrels were used to age California port wine. Now, they've been emptied and are to be filled with beer, cider, distilled spirit or any other beverage you can dream up. You can expect them to add fruity flavors and aromas to the next beverage you age in them.
Barrels used for maturing bourbon are required by American law to be made from American white oak which has been charred prior to usage. As these casks cannot be re-used to make bourbon, they often reused by breweries and distilleries to for maturing other spirits.
