Distillery Information

Smith Bowman Distillery "Isaac Bowman" Straight Bourbon Whiskey - Port Barrel Finished, Fredericksburg, Virginia. Great depth to this Virginian Bourbon which finished aging in Port Barrels. With a distilling history dating back to 1934, it's no surprise A.
The original distillery was built on the 7,200-acre Sunset Hills estate in 1927 when A. Smith Bowman opened a dairy and granary. After the repeal of Prohibition in Virginia, the grains were used for distilling. In 1988, the distillery relocated 60 miles south to Spotsylvania County near Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Aging: Bowman Brothers Small Batch Bourbon is aged in new, charred American white oak barrels for a period typically ranging from 7 to 9 years. This aging process allows the bourbon to mature and develop its unique character.
The Recipe - Bourbon is distilled from a fermented mash of grain, yeast and water. The “mash bill” must have a minimum of 51% corn. For most bourbons, the average is about 70%. Other grains such as rye, malted barley, and wheat are considered “flavor” grains.
