Distillery Information

Bombay Sapphire is a brand of gin that is distilled by the Bombay Spirits Company, a subsidiary company of Bacardi, at Laverstoke Mill in the village of Laverstoke in the English county of Hampshire. Bombay Spirits Co., Ltd. The brand was first launched in 1986 by English wine-merchant IDV.
The brand was launched in 1987, and was based on Bombay Original London Dry Gin which is a 200-year-old formula that eschewed boiling botanicals for vapor infusion. The gin is triple distilled using carterhead stills rather than the more commonly used pot still.
Bombay Sapphire's heritage begins in 1761 when Thomas Dakin purchased a site in Warrington, England, with the intention of distilling gin.
Its name originates from the popularity of gin in India during the British Raj and “Sapphire” refers to the violet-blue Star of Bombay which was mined from Sri Lanka and is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution.
