Distillery Information

Blackstone is fortunate to call both Monterey and Sonoma County home. Our winery in Monterey County is where Blackstone makes its award-winning California Merlot, as well as its range of Monterey County wines.
But in general, Chardonnay is dry, medium- to full-bodied with moderate tannins and acidity. It typically has tropical fruit flavors (think pineapple, papaya, and mango) although it's not sweet. If Chardonnay is aged in oak barrels, it will have a creamier texture and buttery taste with hints of vanilla and spice.While some theories claimed the grape came from the Middle East, Cyprus, or Croatia, the most consistent story traces its origin back to the Burgundy region of France. Today, Chardonnay grapes are regularly grown and pressed in diverse locations around the world, from California to England to New Zealand.
Burgundy, and in particular the Côte de Beaune, is the place where Chardonnay first captured the imagination of wine drinkers all over the world. From Meursault to Puligny Montrachet and beyond, the Chardonnays of Burgundy's appellations all exhibit different terroir and winemaking styles.
Blackstone's founders, brothers Derek and Courtney Benham, will retain the Martin Ray and Mark West brands, while Blackstone winemaker Dennis Hill will stay on in his role, joining the Pacific Wine Partners staff.
The wine opens with blackberry, currant, and plums on the nose, with flavors in that same dark-fruit range. The full tannins and rich, supple mouth are very lush and the wine is big and bold, with lots of smoky, toasty oak and a long, lingering finish.
