Joe saw the true magic of spirits after a transformative experience tasting whiskey straight from the barrel for the very first time. In 2013, he launched Barrell Craft Spirits in Louisville, Kentucky, the epicenter of the American spirits industry.
The mash is a mix of corn, rye, and malted barley. Akin to a “Vatted Malt,” no neutral grain spirit is added. We do not chill filter, a common practice that removes natural, flavor rich oils. Only a coarse particulate filter strains the small bits of charred oak surrendered by the barrel.
Barrell Craft Spirits Gold Label Bourbon is a blend of 16- and 17-year-old straight bourbons.
Matured for a minimum of 16 years. Distilled in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Crafted and bottled in Kentucky 102.2 proof cask strength bottling.
The barrel was first developed by the Celts. Celts were Northern European tribes who lived around the Alps (currently Germany and France). Around 350BC Celts were using barrel-shaped, watertight wooden containers which could be rolled or stacked.While the actual origins of barrels are hard to find, wooden barrels as we know them were invented around 300 B.C. In the past, wooden barrels were standard for transporting goods.
