Distillery Information

Balblair Distillery is purchased by Inver House Distillers and so begins the newest chapter in the history of this timeless distillery.
The story of Scotch begins as early as the 15th century. The earliest documented record of distilling in Scotland occurred in 1494 in the tax records of the day, the Exchequer Rolls. An entry lists “Eight bolls of malt to Friar John Cor wherewith to make aqua vitae.”
Although the level of scientific involvement may vary, master distillers usually supervise the production of the spirits made at their distilleries and are responsible for the final products and their quality.
An Indian whisky has emerged as the world's best. The Indri Diwali Collector's Edition 2023 won the coveted 'Best in Show, Double Gold' award at the 2023 Whiskies of the World Awards. India's homegrown whiskey won the award after an assessment of over 100 Whisky brands. In Scotland, the first evidence of whisky production comes from an entry in the Exchequer Rolls for 1495 where malt is sent "To Friar John Cor, by order of the king, to make aquavitae", enough to make about 500 bottles. James IV of Scotland Scotland is the biggest producer of whisky in the world, and has been for at least 100 years. But while Scotland is synonymous with whisky, it isn't the only country to produce it. Others, such as the USA, Ireland and Japan, also have long, proud traditions of whisky-making.
Therefore, a single malt means that the whisky has not been blended elsewhere with whisky from other distilleries. As with any Scotch whisky, a single malt Scotch must be distilled in Scotland and matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years, although most single malts are matured longer.
