Distillery Information

Ouzo 12 is a typical Greek liqueur, born in Constantinople in 1880 and takes its name from the barrel number 12, of the Kaloyiannis distillery, one of the most famous Greek distilleries.
From September 2005 OUZO12 is distilled and produced in the Koutsikos' distillery in Volos (Central Greece), an area famous for its Ouzo and Tsipouro. The history of Koutsikos' distillery is interesting too. It begins in 1889, with the establishment of the 1st distillery.Ouzo production begins with distillation in copper stills of 96% alcohol by volume (ABV) rectified spirit. Anise is added, sometimes with other flavorings such as star anise, fennel, mastic, cardamom, coriander, cloves, and cinnamon.
Ouzo 12 is made by double distilling grape alcohol with anise, cardamom, cinnamon, coriander and nutmeg.
Raw material is almost pure alcohol (96%) obtained by the distillation of an agricultural product (grapes, cereals …), and re-distillation is done by aromatic seeds that necessarily includes anise, but cardamom, mastic, coriander can also be included.Bottled ouzo that is 100% the product of distillation is a genuine, pure distillate crafted from raw ingredients deriving from plants: ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin (from sugar beets or raisins), anise, barley, various other grains, mastic, onions, salt, and aromatic herbs of the Greek land.
