POWERS moved to a new state-ofthe-art distillery in Midleton, Co. Cork. However, John's Lane Distillery still stands proudly in Dublin City.
With a range of single pot still whiskies as well as a premium triple-stilled blend, Powers has been described as one of the top five whiskies in the world. How has Powers lasted for over two centuries? By making its bold, complex whiskey the right way. The brand has been part of Pernod Ricard since 1989.
Each expression brings its own personality, while still telling some stories from John's Lane. POWERS JOHN'S LANE CASK STRENGTH is true to the original style of John's Lane Distillery, which was renowned for its Pot Still Irish Whiskeys, bursting with flavour and character.
Irish whiskey is made from barley, wheat and corn. The respective quantity depends on the type of whiskey. The grain naturally contains a lot of starch in its husk. This starch must be converted into sugar, which is needed for the fermentation process in which the yeast converts the sugar into alcohol.
In 1886, John Power & Son began bottling their own whiskey, rather than following the practice customary at the time, of selling whiskey directly to merchants and bonders who would bottle it themselves. They were the first Dublin distillery to do so, and one of the first in the world.
James Power doesn't always get the credit he deserves. As an innkeeper, he did a little distilling on the side, until the popularity of that whiskey made it much more than a side hustle. A distillery would follow at John's Lane in 1791, just off Thomas Street in Dublin.
