Cubatabaco and Habanos SA – held equally by the Cuban state and Spanish private enterprise Altadis – do all the work relating to Cuban cigars, including manufacture, quality control, promotion and distribution, and export. Habanos SA handles export and distribution, largely through its European partner Altadis.
The tobacco used in Cuban stogies is grown in specific regions of Cuba, which have been affected by extreme weather conditions and disease outbreaks in recent years.
