Pittyvaich 1992 Prima & Ultima Fourth Release

Color: Radiant amber with golden highlights, reflecting the years of patient maturation in the cask. Nose: Aromas of vanilla and honey greet the senses, leading into a symphony of orchard fruits – think ripe pears and apricots. Subtle notes of toasted oak and a touch of malt add depth, creating an inviting and complex bouquet. Palate: Upon the first sip, a velvety texture unveils layers of flavor. Rich caramel and toffee dance with the sweetness of dried fruits, providing a luxurious and well-balanced palate. The fourth release includes the oldest whisky ever to be bottled from Talisker Distillery – a Talisker 46-Year-Old, an experimental Single Malt from Clynelish, and a Lagavulin heralding from 1997, known as a golden year for the Islay distillery.
The first official bottling (Flora & Fauna) was launched in 1991; the distillery closed shortly after in 1993. The distillery operated for less than two decades; the short-lived adventure of Pittyvaich sadly ended for good when the distillery was demolished in 2002.
While distillation processes have been used around the globe for centuries, the first distillation of whiskey as we know it today took place in Scotland or Ireland in the early 1000s AD. From there, whiskey production grew in popularity, spreading to the Americas with European colonists.
It is an age-old process which may have began as early as 2000 BC. Some say that the first use of distillation occurred in China, Egypt, or Mesopotamia for medicinal purposes as well as to create balms, essences, and perfumes.
The Scottish and Irish monasteries, lacking the vineyards and grapes of the continent, turn to fermenting grain mash, resulting in the first distillations of modern whisky. Around this time, the earliest records of alcohol distillation appear in Italy, with it being distilled from wine.
Distillation is used to separate liquids from nonvolatile solids, as in the separation of alcoholic liquors from fermented materials, or in the separation of two or more liquids having different boiling points, as in the separation of gasoline, kerosene, and lubricating oil from crude oil.
Distilling is essentially the process whereby a liquid made of two or more parts is separated into smaller parts of desired purity by the addition and subtraction of heat from the mixture. The vapours/liquids distilled will separated other ingredients that have lower boiling points.
