The reposado spirit usually has a dark golden color, notes of caramel and honey, and a warm, toasty finish. Reposados are unique since they hold tequila's classic flavors of citrus and spice and combine the complexity of chocolate, chili, cinnamon and vanilla.

Distillery Information

Tequila is made in Mexico, specifically in one of 5 approved states (Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacan, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas). But, most of tequila is made in the Tequila Valley ("Lowlands") and Los Altos ("Highlands") of the state of Jalisco.Reposado is made when Blanco tequila is aged anywhere from 2 to 11 months in oak barrels. This aging process allows the spirit to mellow and take on a deeper, more complex character. Reposado has a softer, smoother, more aromatic flavor than Blanco and often takes on vanilla or caramel flavors from the oak aging.The reposado spirit usually has a dark golden color, notes of caramel and honey, and a warm, toasty finish. In 1861, Tequila Herradura (horseshoe) was founded by Feliciano Romo and is present-day a company museum. Herradura was the first to produce reposado tequila and always has only made 100% agave tequila.
The word reposado means rested, in Spanish. Reposado tequila stays in the barrel for a duration of 2 months to a year, depending on the flavor profile a distiller is looking to achieve.
