Masterson's is produced at Alberta Distillers in Canada, and owned by Deutsch Family Distillers. The brand gets its name from Bat Masterson, an American bastion of butch. This Masterson's Rye is a classic whiskey with impeccable character, made from 100% Pacific Northwest Rye.
This straight rye whiskey is comprised of 100% rye from the Pacific Northwest. Produced in Calgary, this Canadian whiskey is aged in white oak and aged for a minimum of 10 years.
In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
Rye whiskey can be traced back all the way to 1750 — several decades before the invention of bourbon whiskey. Rye whiskey was created in Pennsylvania when farmers and immigrants attempted to create whiskeys similar to what they would've enjoyed in their home countries.Rye production soon took off in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Monongahela, Pennsylvania became one of the main locations for Rye Whiskey production, including the Joseph Sinnet Distillery, that eventually grew to have locations in Boston, Georgia and Louisiana.Masterson's 10 year old rye whisky is distilled in Canada by Alberta Distillers, for 35 Maple Street in California. This whiskey contains a 100% Rye mash bill. Instead of using the typical barley in the mash bill to convert starch to sugar, we push the boundaries & use a Rye malt. This allows us a true 100% Rye mash, focusing on all the spice notes yet adding sweet subtle, fruity malt notes.
