Glendalough Irish Madeira Cask Whiskey

Appearance: Rich amber hues reminiscent of polished mahogany, with golden highlights that shimmer in the light. Nose: The aroma opens with inviting notes of ripe figs and succulent raisins, accented by hints of toasted oak and subtle spices. A delicate sweetness reminiscent of honeyed apricots lingers in the background, adding depth and complexity. Palate: Upon the first sip, flavors of caramelized brown sugar and velvety smooth toffee dance gracefully on the palate, complemented by the luscious richness of dried fruits and a touch of dark chocolate. The influence of the Madeira cask is evident, lending a distinctive sweetness that is beautifully balanced by layers of oak and gentle spice. Finish: The finish is long and luxurious, with lingering echoes of warm vanilla and toasted almonds. A subtle warmth envelops the senses, leaving a lasting impression of indulgence and satisfaction.

The Glendalough Distillery, a true Irish Craft Distillery, was set up by five friends from Wicklow and Dublin with a passion for reviving the heritage of small size distilling in Ireland. Ireland once had over 200 licensed distilleries in the 18th and 19th centuries.The Glendalough Distillery is located just south of Dublin in the Wicklow Mountains on the road to Glendalough. Billed as being “Ireland's First Craft Distillery”, The Glendalough Distillery was established in 2011 by five friends from Wicklow and Dublin.
In 2011, Kevin Keenan, Gary McLoughlin, Barry Gallagher, Brian Fagan, and Donal O'Gallachoir founded the Glendalough Irish Whiskey Company, whose managing director was Barry Gallagher. Since there is initially nothing to sell after a start-up, whiskey was obtained from the Irish Cooley Distillery.
Outlawed in 1661 but now it's back, ours is triple distilled in a traditional copper pot-still using malted barley and pure spring water and bottled at 55% for a strong, authentic taste of Ireland's original spirit.
Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey is a single grain Irish whiskey, initially matured in American bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period of six months in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks. This comes bottled at 42% ABV, brought down to this strength by Wicklow mountain water.
At Glendalough Distillery we progressively-craft luxury spirits in the Wicklow Mountains, in Ireland. We hope these spirits evoke a sense of place through their depth of flavour as they are an expression of what we love about these mountains.
