Home of Canadian Club is Windsor, Ontario, where the distillery is situated on the banks of the Detroit River that serves as a frontier between Canada and the US.
The leading international brand of Canadian whisky has been produced in Ontario since 1858. The component whiskies, which have high levels of rye and barley malt, are blended before going into charred white oak barrels where they are aged for six years.
This is a whisky made for those who love rye. It was created in the heart of Alberta's unforgiving rye country, by a team who have spent the last 60 years mastering the art of distilling with rye.
In distillation, the still is heated to just below the boiling point of water and the alcohol and other compounds vaporise and pass over the neck of the still into either a condenser or a worm – a large copper coil immersed in cold running water where the vapour is condensed into a liquid.
Since Canadian whisky is not held to a high standard by non-Canadians, it is sold at a much lower price than it should be. This is made obvious when you look at the 'luxury' bottles of whisky on the market.
Canadian whisky can be made from any grain. And what makes it unique is that each individual type of grain is milled, mashed, fermented, distilled and then matured separately. From there, the one-grain spirits are labeled either the base whisky or flavoring whisky.
