In 1735, Edward was killed in his family estate by mercenaries in the employ of the Templar Grand Master Reginald Birch, who sought to acquire Edward's journal.
The game's backstory establishes that Edward comes from a low socio-economic background and married a wealthy girl named Caroline Scott, though their relationship became strained over time due to Edward's ambitious dreams of earning a fortune as a privateer.
A known troublemaker in his youth, Edward met and fell in love with Caroline Scott, and later married in 1712 despite the disapproval of her parents. Caroline's father disowned her and didn't provide her with a dowry, leaving the married couple deprived of wealth.Shortly thereafter, while on a trip to the market square in Florence with Sofia and Flavia, Ezio suffers a heart attack and passes away at the age of 65.
Edward Kenway has quite an impressive resume when it comes to Master Assassins. He did start off way too late but nevertheless managed better than most other assassins. In fact, he even began from scratch as a pirate with no future.
