Distillery Information

The distillery was officially established in 1897, but it's believed that whisky has been produced on the site since the 16th century. It is one of the largest distilleries in Scotland and the first to be owned by a Japanese firm, after being purchased by Takara Shuzo in 1986.
Tomatin distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in the village of Tomatin. Its whisky is classified as being from the Highland region, as it is 25 minutes south of Inverness.
Established in 1965, Tomintoul Distillery is located near to the village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland and in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The area surrounding Tomintoul Distillery is one of astounding natural beauty.
Although the first manifestation of Tomatin only ran between 1897 and 1906, its reopening under new management in 1909 saw the start of a remarkable journey which would culminate in this remote Highland outpost in between Aviemore and Inverness becoming the largest malt whisky distillery in Scotland.
The new chapter. As a result, it did not stay closed for long, and in February 1986 two Japanese companies, Takara Shuzo and Okura & Co., purchased the distillery to form the Tomatin Distillery Co. Ltd., of which Takara Shuzo proudly remains the majority shareholder to this day.
