Distillery Information

In 1824, a businessman named George Smith applied for one of the first licenses in the Speyside region of Scotland and opened the doors to The Glenlivet Distillery. Glenlivet, translated from Gaelic, means “valley of the smooth flowing one” and is most likely referencing the nearby River Livet.
Made in the Scottish Highlands since 1824, The Glenlivet is the world's second best-selling single malt. Malt from Speyside and mineral water from Cairngorms National Park are distilled in traditional lantern-shaped stills and then matured in oak casks, giving The Glenlivet its smooth, rich and fruity flavour.
By the 1860s, The Glenlivet was noted for producing a spirit with a 'pineapple' note, evidence that the floral, estery character seen today has a long history – and one which broke with the heavy, dense, rich styles prevalent at that time.
All the whisky produced at The Glenlivet is pure single malt Scotch and more specifically, Speyside single malt Scotch whisky. Our distillery is near Ballindalloch in Moray, in the Speyside region and draws water from Josie's Well and other nearby springs.Aged for a minimum of 21 years, the nose is filled with aromas of caramelised pears and juicy peaches, along with cinnamon and nutmeg provided by the French oak barrels. On the palate, notes of dried fruits meet with chocolate-coated ginger and warm spices that lead to a long and lingering finish.
