Fermentation of Stolichnaya starts with wheat and rye grains and artesian water, and takes about 60 hours. Once fermentation is complete, the resulting liquid is distilled three times, to a strength of 96.4% alcohol by volume (ABV). That spirit is diluted to bottling strength using more artesian well water.
The elit Estate checks each harvest, slowly ferments it, and distills it three times to make it pure AF. Then, they ship the Spirit to the capital of Latvia, where they blend it with artesian water that comes from the deepest wells.
First launched in California in mid-2004, Stolichnaya Elit is made from Russian Alpha Spirit distilled from winter wheat and filtered through quartz sand, Siberian birch charcoal and cloth filters. It is then flash-chilled to -18°C and passed through ion-charged filters to ensure its purity.
The grain is carefully inspected before it is accepted into the distillery. It is then, slowely fermented before being distilled three times. The distilled spirit travels to the famed Latvijas Balzams facility in Latvia where it is blended with artisan well water, sourced deep below the earth.
The fermentation process involves feeding sugar to yeast so that the yeast will produce alcohol. You can make vodka from any starchy or high sugar plant matter mixed with yeast and water. Most vodkas are made using a blend of grains like rye, wheat, malt, flaked maize, corn, or sorghum.
