Entirely composed of pure pot still whiskeys from the Midleton distillery that have been aged for between 12 and 14 years. Pale gold/bronze colour. Distinct cocoa and mocha overtones on the nose with hints of dried apricots, orange peel and marshmallow.
Starting in 1975, all distilling operations were consolidated at a new distillery in Midleton, just outside Cork. From 1976 on, Powers whiskey has been produced at the new Midleton distillery.It must be distilled and matured in wooden casks for a minimum of three years on the island of Ireland.Powers is a brand of Irish whiskey produced by the Irish Distillers subsidiary of Pernod Ricard.
The first Irish whiskey ever to be bottled, Powers has a history dating back to 1791. With a range of single pot still whiskies as well as a premium triple-stilled blend, Powers has been described as one of the top five whiskies in the world. How has Powers lasted for over two centuries.If a bottle of Scotch whisky shows an age statement, e.g. "12 Years Old" means that the youngest whisky in the bottle is at least 12 years old. Scotch is bottled at a variety of ages, from 3 years to 50 years. Grain whisky is most often used between 3 and 5 years old in blended whisky brands.
The Irish have been doing it this way for centuries. But there's a good reason why. Distilling a liquid three times—as opposed to the more traditional double distillation of Scotch Single Malt—results in a rounded, smoother spirit that is more inviting and more accessible to most palates.
