The majority of the Nikka Days Whisky is the Nikka Coffey Grain as well as the malt whiskies from the Miyagikyo Distillery on Japan's main island of Honshu.
Founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the brand is headquartered in Tokyo and is the country's second largest distiller. It operates from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, and also owns Ben Nevis.
Masataka Taketsuru, known as the father of Japanese whisky, founded the Nikka distillery in the 1930s. Today you can visit the original factory, in Yoichi, a town west of Sapporo, close to Otaru.
The company operates a number of distilleries and other facilities in Japan, including two Japanese whisky distilleries, the Yoichi distillery in Yoichi, Hokkaidō (established in 1934), and the Miyagikyo distillery in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Northern Honshū (established in 1969).
