Metaxa 12 Star Brandy

This one-of-a-kind amber spirit unfolds a very complex character with subtle aromatic notes of toasted oak wood, orange peel and spices. It results from the unique craftsmanship of ageing and blending wine distillates and Muscat wines, exclusively from the island of Samos. The Metaxa Master says: Normally we use lightly-toasted barrels of Limousin oak. But here I use heavy-toasted barrels. I also select Muscat wine from higher altitudes, for even more concentrated flavours. He recommends to discover it neat or on ice, but bartenders of refined places and mixologists explore it in signature cocktails.

Spyros Metaxa builts his first distillery in 1888 in Piraeus, the port of Athens. His unique one-of-a-kind amber spirit is soon being exported around the Mediterranean.
In 1968, the distillery and the Metaxa cellars were relocated to new facilities in Athens's northern suburb of Kifissia.

Metaxa is an amber-colored liqueur based on brandy, produced in Athens, Greece. It was created in 1888 by Spyros Metaxa and today, is Greece's most exported spirit, found in more than 65 countries around the world.This 12 Star bottling is a blend of brandies that have been aged for up to 12 years, Muscat wines from the Samos island and specially selected Greek botanicals. 12 Star is the flagship bottling of the Metaxa range.
Metaxa is made from Muscat wines from Samos and wine distillates, which are aged separately and then combined in Limousin oak casks. Mediterranean botanicals are added as part of the finishing process.
The star rating doesn't refer directly to the quality of the product, but to the age of the youngest spirit in the bottle. Metaxa is a blend of spirits from different years, in the same way that sherry is a blend, and so the youngest spirit in 12-Star has been aged for at least twelve years.
