Hillrock Solera Aged Bourbon
The slight cinnamon aromas are surprising along with the oaked caramel-vanilla and floral, fruit notes on the nose of this golden amber bourbon. Sweet, yet spicy full-bodied flavors are warm with maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, roasted corn, a nd raisin notes on the palate are balanced by spicy notes of clove and cinnamon. The medium to long warm finish abounds with sweet caramel and butterscotch. Familiar characteristic of Oloroso sherry flavors of walnut, fig and candied fruit balance the spi cy rye undertones.
With roots going back as far as 1806, Hillrock Estate Distillery out of New York’s Hudson Valley region isn’t one to be taken lightly when it comes to quality quaffs. They are the first company to offer solera aged bourbon, with their original Solera Aged whiskey first released in 2012. Expertly crafted from undisclosed sourced bourbon, this ongoing release of NAS solera processed whiskey is finished in 20 year old Oloroso Sherry casks and has a barrel strength of 92.6% proof. The nose holds notes of dark fruits, rye, and hints of blossoms. On the tongue are layers of sherry, cherries, sugared raisins, and vanilla over caramelized rye spice.
