Distillery Information

The Glenglassaugh Distillery Company was established in 1875 to oversee the new distillery's build at Sandend Bay, though during the 20th century it was beset with long periods of closure brought on by economic woes hitting the whole industry.
Glenglassaugh Distillery, at the east end of the beautiful Sandend Bay, was founded by Col. James Moir in 1875. He quickly established a reputation for making quality whisky and the company prospered under his leadership, with his two nephews, until 1892 when Glenglassaugh was purchased by Highland Distillers.
The Glenglassaugh Distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in a picturesque site just outside the Speyside region in Northeast Scotland, close to the small town of Portsoy, Banffshire some 54 miles Northwest of Aberdeen.
William Grant fulfils a lifelong ambition and starts building his own distillery with the help of his nine children and a single stone mason. He names it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer. After a year of hard work the first drop of spirit falls from our copper stills on Christmas Day 1887.
