Sagamore Spirit Bottled in Bond 6-Year-Old straight rye whiskey marks our commitment to the highest levels of excellence and authenticity-furthering our mission to make Maryland distilled, aged, and bottled products. Enacted in 1897, the bottled in bond distinction is a marker of distilling quality and transparency.
In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
Aged for 5 years, this 90-proof bourbon is smooth yet complex with oak and citrus aromas followed by vanilla, caramel, banana chips, and dried hay on the palate.
The Farming + Distilling process led by Co-Founder Colby Frey and Master Distiller Russell Wedlake begins with the meticulous care and farming of the whiskey grains grown on our 1,500-acre farm, located just east of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Fallon, Nevada.
The story of the Frey Ranch began way back in 1854, when the Frey family (pronounced like “fray”) started farming in Fallon and created a legacy of growing corn and grains on the property. Colby was raised on the farm and taught the value of doing things the right way, with a wink and a smile.
The bottled-in-bond designation mandates that brands clear numerous rigorous hurdles. The spirit must be aged for at least four years and bottled at precisely 100 proof (50% abv). It must be made by one distiller at a single distillery in one season, then aged in a bonded warehouse.
