It is a type of whiskey produced and officially marketed as "Clyde May's Alabama Style Whiskey" by Conecuh Ridge Distillery Inc. It is marketed as a high-quality aged moonshine whiskey that was produced illegally in Alabama during the mid to late 20th century. The brand was legalized by the moonshiner's son Kenny May.
The apple-infused flavor is still a component to the modern version of Clyde May's Alabama Style whiskey. May died in 1990 and his son, Kenny, took his father's recipe and Alabama Conecuh Ridge water to Kentucky for distilling. The finished product was brought back to Alabama for distribution.During World War II, May served in the U.S. Army's 77th Infantry. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
