Distillery Information

Clos du Bois is a California producer located in Sonoma County with close ties to the history and development of the Sonoma wine industry. It was founded in 1974 by Frank Woods and the first commercial wines produced were a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir.
Our 2021 Clos du Bois Pinot Noir is an approachable, medium-bodied red wine from California. Aromas of cherry and vanilla bean rise from the glass with a touch of anise. This wine brims with layers of sweet cherry, strawberry and raspberry with a silky mouthfeel.
In 1974, Frank Woods founded Clos du Bois with a vision of blending the French winemaking techniques with the best California grapes to craft balanced, approachable wines. Year after year, our wines have been recognized by both wine critics and wine enthusiasts alike.
Clos LaChance produces wines from our 150-acre Estate vineyard in San Martin, CA and the nearby Santa Cruz Mountains.
At first it was supposed to be called "Woods Vineyards", but the French studying children of Woods finally chose the original name (french bois = forest, Clos du Bois = Vineyard of the Woods). After several changes of ownership, the estate was finally bought by Constellation Brands in 2007.
Clos du bois chardonnay is fruity and citrusy from the smell, taste when is chilled it leaves that tingle sensation in my mouth. It's not a full body chardonnay, leads to the dry side; it will pair well with fish.
The French term “Clos Du Bois” literally translates to “Closed Wood” and refers to aging wine in oak barrels. At Clos Du Bois Winery, this French-style winemaking method, using only the best oak barrels to age wines made from some of Sonoma County's best grapes, was started back in 1974 by Founder, Frank Woods.
A clos (French 'enclosure') is a walled vineyard. Walled vineyards protected the grapes from theft and may improve the mesoclimate.
