It is named after the 17th-century Welsh privateer of the Caribbean, Sir Henry Morgan who died on 25 August 1688. Production locations changed over the decades, including a stint being made on Puerto Rico. Today, all production of Captain Morgan has been moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
