Appearance: Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair Whiskey presents itself with a rich amber hue, reminiscent of polished mahogany, inviting you to delve into its depths. Aroma: The nose is greeted with a complex bouquet of dried fruits, including raisins and figs, intertwined with notes of dark chocolate and warm spices. Hints of toffee and oak emerge, balanced by a subtle brininess that nods to its coastal origins. Palate: On the palate, Stiuireadair offers a velvety-smooth texture, with flavors of rich toffee, honey, and ripe dark fruits dancing across the tongue. Pronounced 'Bunn-na-ha-venn', meaning 'mouth of the river' in Scots Gaelic, our distillery is the most remote on Islay, nestled in Bunnahabhain Bay on the shores of the Sound of Islay.
First founded in 1881, Bunnahabhain relied upon the sea trade. Armed only with a small village, a pier and lots of whisky making know-how, our forefathers received supplies by boat and sent adventuring seafarers back to the mainland with casks full of whisky.The Bunnahabhain is one of the milder single malt Islay whiskies available and its taste varies greatly from other spirits to be found on the island of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland.
The company is directly owned by Burn Stewart's South African parent company, Distell.
Built in 1881 its name comes from the Gaelic, Bunnahabhain (Bu-na-ha-venn), meaning 'mouth of the river', a reference to the Margadale, the river from whose clear spring waters the whisky is distilled.
Master blender Julieann Fernandez selects the casks for these releases from the famous Warehouse 9 herself, predominately sherry casks and a small portion of bourbon barrels.
Most people naturally assume that “single malt” means just that – a single whisky from a single barrel. In fact, what a Scottish “single malt” actually means is that it is only malt whisky, prepared in the traditional way, and produced by a single distillery in Scotland.
