Brora 1977 Prima & Ultima Fourth Release Whiskey

Appearance: Rich amber hues dance in the glass, offering a glimpse into the decades-long slumber of this exceptional spirit. The liquid clings delicately to the sides, promising a luscious and full-bodied experience. Nose: As you approach, the aroma is an intoxicating blend of dried fruits and orchard blossoms. Subtle waves of honeyed sweetness intertwine with a distant whisper of coastal peat, while hints of vanilla and oak emerge, adding depth and complexity to the olfactory journey. The fourth release includes the oldest whisky ever to be bottled from Talisker Distillery – a Talisker 46-Year-Old, an experimental Single Malt from Clynelish, and a Lagavulin heralding from 1997, known as a golden year for the Islay distillery.
Originally founded in 1819 as Clynelish Distillery by Marquis of Stafford (later known as the Duke of Sutherland) to create a market for his tenant farmers' grain. Now known as the Brora distillery, it lies on the northern outskirts of the village of Brora on the Sutherland coast.
A casualty of the 1980s “whisky loch” – a period of oversupply that prompted the closure of several distilleries – Brora has long been considered a lost icon. While it was sleeping, its remaining rare whisky has gained cult status among single-malt enthusiasts.The distillery was founded under the Name Clynelish by the Duke of Sutherland in 1819. It closed in 1983, but started production again 38 years later after a major renovation by owner Diageo.
On 21st May this year (2021), the Brora Distillery opened its gates after more than thirty-eight years of closure. Set in the rolling hillsides of Sutherland, northeast Scotland, its picturesque courtyards and grey brick, slate-roofed buildings will now see renewed whisky making.
