Maison Ferrand is the owner of the Plantation rum brand with global distribution in 68 countries. The company produces Cognac and gin at its facility in Cognac, France and the purchase of West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) marks the first distillery acquisition outside of France.
The best rums for Plantation Rum are often only produced in small quantities or as a single cask in Barbados, Jamaica, Belize, Fiji or Guatemala. After maturing for several years in the country of origin, the rum is transported to France.
A blend of rums from West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados and Long Pond and Clarendon Distilleries in Jamaica. The rums are briefly aged in ex-bourbon barrels in their home countries before being brought to the Chateau Bonbonnet in France, where they finish their aging together in Ferrand Cognac barrels.
A "single cask" rum is one that comes from a single barrel. The quantity of rum produced therefore varies according to the size of the cask and how full it is after ageing. Single casks are therefore very limited editions. The word "single cask" on a bottle means that it has not been blended.
