Lagavulin Distillers Edition is a distinguished expression from the iconic Islay distillery, offering an exceptional and nuanced single malt Scotch whisky. This meticulously crafted edition begins with Lagavulin's renowned 16-year-old single malt as its base, but undergoes a unique secondary maturation process, setting it apart from the standard release.

The whisky is initially aged in traditional oak casks, allowing it to develop the signature Lagavulin character – a rich and peaty profile that captivates the senses. Following this initial maturation, the Distillers Edition undergoes a second aging period in specially selected Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, imparting an additional layer of complexity and sweetness.

The result is a whisky that harmoniously balances the intense peat smoke for which Lagavulin is celebrated with the sweet, dried fruit and dark chocolate notes derived from the sherry cask finishing. The aroma is a symphony of maritime influences, medicinal peat, and luscious sherry sweetness, while the palate delivers a full-bodied experience with a velvety texture and a delightful interplay of smoky, briny, and fruity elements.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition is bottled at a higher-than-standard proof, enhancing its bold and robust character. With each sip, whisky enthusiasts can savor the marriage of Islay's rugged coastal terroir, Lagavulin's masterful distillation, and the nuanced influence of sherry cask maturation, culminating in a memorable and sophisticated drinking experience. This expression stands as a testament to Lagavulin's commitment to tradition and innovation, making it a coveted choice among discerning whisky connoisseurs.

Lapsang tea, earthy liquorice, hints of dark chocolate, grassy notes, leather, roasted coffee, dried seaweed, and a lightly acrid, medicinal, and peppery note. The finish is medium long, with more of the medicinal ashes and sweet malty notes.

Distillery Information

The Lagavulin distillery is located in the village of Lagavulin, on the south of the island of Islay, Scotland. The distillery is owned by Diageo, a multinational beverage alcohol company.
The distillery runs 24/7 and has a production capacity of 2.53 million liters of spirits a year. The distillery's slow distillation process contributes to the mellow character of its spirits. Water for production is drawn from Lochan Shoulum, which is fed by water from the hills that flows down through peat beds.
The standard Lagavulin single malt is 16 years old (43%), but the distillery also regularly releases a 12-year-old cask strength variety, a Distiller's edition finished in Pedro Ximénez casks, and 25- and 30-year-old varieties.
