Robert Mondavi's elegant Pinot Noir comes from the cool Central Coast vineyards in Acampo and offers a layered flavor profile with irresistible aromas. This medium bodied Pinot Noir boasts of soft tannins, a savory palate, and a lingering finish.
He chose To Kalon Vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley as the home for Robert Mondavi Winery. This first-growth vineyard, located in Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world, as well as for its Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from which Mr.
Pinot noir is grown around the world, mostly in cooler climates, and the variety is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. Pinot noir is now used to make red wines around the world, as well as champagne, sparkling white wines such as the Italian Franciacorta, and English sparkling wines.
Pinot Noir means "black pine cone" in French, named for its dark color and compact, conical shape. It isn't known whether Pinot Noir was imported into France or developed in situ from the wild vinifera grapes that grew in Europe before Roman settlement, but it's agreed that Pinot is among the oldest of French grapes.
He was one of the most influential figures in the American wine world of the late twentieth century. From the launch of the Robert Mondavi Winery in 1966 to his later role as spokesman for wine, Robert Mondavi redefined the place of wine in American food culture.
In 1943, the family purchased the historic Charles Krug winery in Napa Valley. In 1966, Michael and his father Robert partnered to create Robert Mondavi Winery, then threw themselves behind promoting not just the winery's releases, but all Napa Valley wine.
