Tasting Notes

Appearance: A rich amber hue, reminiscent of polished mahogany, glows warmly in the glass, inviting anticipation of the sensory journey to come.

Nose: The nose reveals a delightful interplay of aromas, with the sweetness of caramel and honey intertwined with subtle hints of vanilla and oak from the small batch component. Meanwhile, the single barrel expression introduces deeper, more complex notes of dark fruits, toasted almonds, and a touch of baking spices, adding layers of depth to the bouquet.

Palate: On the palate, the small batch whiskey greets the tongue with a velvety smoothness, offering flavors of butterscotch, toffee, and delicate floral undertones. As the journey continues, the single barrel whiskey takes center stage, unleashing a burst of richness and complexity, with bold flavors of dark chocolate, dried cherries, and a tantalizing hint of cinnamon, all underscored by the subtle presence of toasted oak.

Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with echoes of caramel and spice lingering on the palate, complemented by a lingering warmth that invites another sip. The combination of small batch and single barrel expressions creates a harmonious balance of flavors, leaving a lasting impression of sophistication and refinement.

Distillery Information

The distillery was eventually sold to Jim Beam in 1987. Finally, the Buffalo Trace Distillery, owned by parent company Sazerac Company in New Orleans, purchased the Old Taylor Bourbon brand in 2009. Since 2011, Sazerac continues to produce Bourbon under the E.H. Taylor brand at the Buffalo Trace Distillery.the American South, mainly Kentucky. Bourbon has been distilled since the 18th century. Although bourbon may be made anywhere in the United States, it is strongly associated with the American South in general, and with Kentucky in particular.
Most distillers put bourbon through distillation twice. In the first step, the bourbon goes through column stills. The second round distills it through attached, heated copper pot stills. These bourbon distillation rounds boost the alcohol content of the liquid and remove the mash and other impurities.Distilling started here in 1755 though the oldest remaining building on the site dates back to 1792. It claims to be the oldest continuously-operating distillery in the USA, and it remained open during Prohibition as it was allowed to make that popular product known as 'medicinal whiskey'.
Introduced in 1984, Blanton's pioneered the concept of a single-barrel whiskey as a core product line. The brand was the brainchild of Elmer T. Lee, who was tasked with creating a bourbon that would change the perception of American whiskey from a working man's spirit to a high-end, high-price collectible. It is aged in one barrel, and unlike most others, never blended with any other bourbon. When a barrel is believed to have reached its optimum age, it is evaluated by the Master Distiller and a panel of professional tasters. Barrel No. 23 / Rick No. 20.
